Rebel's Rollout
"Rebel's Rollout" is a 3D platformer where you play as a hamster exploring their cage and trying to escape! It features 3 different levels where you explore corridors, navigate platforming challenges, and use mechanics unique to each level to press a golden button. It was made in about 4 months in a Game Production class.
This game was both one of the largest teams I was on, and one of the most difficult production cycles I was involved in during university. For several months, our team could not settle on what our vision for the game was, and it ended up as a fairly flat and unimpressive final product. However, from our own perspectives, we felt so lucky to reach this point!
I did UI and backend programming for Rebel's Rollout, so most of my work has gone into things you DON'T see. Things like the landmark system, save systems, any sort of menu navigation, etc. I had a hand in some other programming aspects too, but mostly from an advisory standpoint.
About halfway through the project, I tried to take some control of our creative direction, since we were all very lost. I got our team to finally settle on something (instead of nothing) which let us actually work towards a goal. That "something" ended up being too complicated given our scope, so we downsized it quite a bit, and ended up with the game here.
It wasn't a bad experience, but I still wish that this game could've ended up being more creative in some way. It's decently basic and a tad frustrating. But the things I learned as a part of a team were so important to me, as well as the team themselves:
- Gabe Slye
- Micah Hernandez
- Tyler Starbuck
- Ryan Swanson
- Tommy Roberts
- Jasper Schiliro
- Mitchell Young
