Rota Fortunae

Date

April, 2024

Role

Programming, UI

Genre

Card

Welcome to "Rota Fortunae!" Place cards onto a rotating wheel! Depending on the color the cards are placed on, the cards belong to different players! However, be careful, as the wheel's colors change each turn. The wheel will spin and select a card each round, scoring points for the player that has the most of that suit!

This is the 3rd prototype I worked on during my 2024 rapid-prototyping class. We had a team switch at this time, so I was back on programming and UI work pretty much. However, around this time, I got pretty tired sinking my soul into every project. So, instead of just checking out and doing nothing, I decided to invest my time into helping programmers and designers with less knowledge than me. Believe it or not, most people in university didn't use their summers and free time to constantly work on new projects...

Rota Fortunae was decently interesting to work on, since we just wanted to make a card game using a traditional set of cards! It has one core unique piece, which is the "wheel" in the center. This wheel "rotates" its colors every round, which gives players different ownership over cards in play. It ends up being a decently confusing but functional "push your luck" game. We could never figure out what to do with face cards, so they ended up having a bunch of wacky effects that honestly obfuscate the game more in my opinion.

I was pretty tired at this time, and was decently hands-off with work. But I was glad to lend some programming and architecture knowledge & tips to my fellow teammates. Here they are:
- Peyton Metcalf
- Mitchell Young
- Trinity Hutson
- Travis Wade
- Logan Baker
- Marissa Edwards
- Gavin Jackson
- Gabriel Engelmann
- Alex Laubenstein
